My stand for you as a yoga teacher and coach is to be a catalyst. Yoga is a platform for empowerment, expression, and discovery. Through the practices of asana, meditation, and self-study, I invite you to step into the brightest, most powerful version of yourself. I'm more interested in who you are being in the pose rather than in how you look, and creating a stable foundation in your body from which to stand and live your whole life. I see my students with compassion and curiosity rather than judgment or pressure. I will use my voice and self-empowered being to encourage and lift you up.
I am an RYT 500, Tier 3 certified Baptiste Power Yoga Instructor, and Certified Yoga of 12 Step Recovery (Y12SR) Space Holder. For most of my life, I have suffered from overactive, distorted, obsessive thinking. I am addicted to the illusion of power and control. In my 20’s, I was overweight, angry, and deeply unhappy. I was trying to find solutions to life's problems using the same techniques that kept me trapped and feeling desperate. When my thinking becomes distorted, I fall into the trap of obsessive thinking, control, addiction, codependency, attachment, delusion, and denial. Distorted thinking does not lead me to a serene life.
Many years ago, I discovered that body based mindfulness practices like asana, meditation, intentional breathing, and self-study help to ground the body, recognize distorted thinking, gain control of the breath, and ultimately, ground and center myself. These practices helped me to build resilience from a grounded, centered place. I became available to find the solutions I seek, sourced from a power greater than myself, not strictly on self-will alone.
